Engagement rate

Enter the numbers and press Calculate.

There’s no single “good” engagement rate — it varies by platform, niche, format and follower size. Compare a creator against similar accounts, not a global average.

The formula

How engagement rate is calculated

By followers

(likes + comments) ÷ followers × 100

By views

(likes + comments) ÷ views × 100

Worked example · Instagram, by followers

@mayaglowsdaily has 48,000 followers. Across her last 10 posts she got 14,200 likes and 1,160 comments. (14,200 + 1,160) ÷ 10 = 1,536 engagements per post.

1,536 ÷ 48,000 × 100 = 3.2%

Worked example · Reels, by views

@cityfoodtrail’s last 5 reels had 410,000 views, 22,500 likes and 1,300 comments — about 6 people liked or commented per 100 views.

23,800 ÷ 410,000 × 100 = 5.8%

Beyond the number

Engagement rate is a starting point, not a decision.

  • Who’s engaging?

A high rate means little if the audience isn’t in your market. Check audience cities and languages.

  • Are they real?

Bought likes and engagement pods inflate the rate. Check estimated fake followers and likers.

  • How do sponsored posts do?

Many creators’ paid posts perform differently from their usual content.

  • Compared with whom?

A 2% rate might be strong for a large account and weak for a small one. Compare with similar creators.

FAQ

Questions

Should I include shares and saves?
Saves and shares aren’t always public, so this calculator uses likes and comments — the figures you can see on any post. That keeps results comparable between creators.
Why use views instead of followers?
Reels, Shorts and TikTok videos are often shown to people who don’t follow the creator, so views are a fairer base.
How many posts should I use?
10–12 recent posts, skipping any that are pinned, very old or clearly unusual (like a giveaway).
Does this tool save my data?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
